On August 20, 2025, the ” Economic Partnership in Indian Ocean-Africa Forum – Towards African prosperity through Japan-Indian Ocean collaboration,” organized by Nikkei Inc., was held.
This public-private forum was a side event of TICAD 9, co-hosted by Nikkei Inc. along with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). The forum focused on promoting business exchange between Japan and Africa. The event began with an opening speech by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
The forum highlighted the importance of collaboration with companies from the Indian Ocean region—including India and the Middle East—as a key driver for Japanese companies expanding into and investing in Africa. Leaders from government and industry engaged in dynamic discussions on the significance and potential of such partnerships.
Our CEO, Susumu Tsubaki, participated in Session 2: “Collaboration with Third-Country Companies in African Market Entry”, where he shared insights on the following topics:
- ●The large-scale oil refinery built in Nigeria in 2024 by the prominent Dangote Group
- ●Collaboration between Sharp and major home appliance company Elaraby in Egypt
- ●AAIC’s consulting and fund businesses
- ●Agricultural projects operated by our group company OSTI in Rwanda and Tanzania
The forum attracted significant attention, with many attendees joining both on-site and online, creating an atmosphere of high energy and engagement.
